Content Analysis

          The story ‘The Race’ by an Indian writer , Nisha Punjabi has a charming power. Tarun, a school boy is the central character of the story. He was a mediocre student, was always blamed by his parents for his low grades and tardy nature. He was called a black sheep or a good for nothing fellow but he had an intense wish to be a fast runner. He gave vent to his better feelings by running. On one such occasion, he accidentally met a veteran athlete and coach, Ram Narayan, who identified his talent in running and agreed to train him if he won the race on Children’s day. But unfortunately, during the race Tarun slipped many times and could not win. Still everyone praised him for his strong determination to complete the race despite many obstacles.

Teacher communicates informally with the learners to create a good rapport, then teacher creates interest and readiness in the learners by showing picture of cricket players and asks them to identify which game. And then teacher lists out the qualities of a good sports person .

  

Entry Activity

 

To create mental readiness among students teacher presents an audio clip of Sachin Tendulkar’s speech . And gives a brief introduction of Sachin’s life and also mentions  that he is an under achiever in his studies.

Link Talk

 

Teacher leads the pupil to the lesson by introducing Sachin Tendulkar as he is an under achiever in study but is a great player in cricket. Teacher gives another example who is back in studies.

Model Reading 

 The teacher reads the first two paragraphs of the story with correct stress and  with proper pronunciation.

 Process Reading

 Teacher now asks the students to read the story silently while reading they are asked to find out the meaning of difficult words from the glossary.

5.     What were the obstacles before Tarun in pursuing his dream?

Teacher asks all learners to read the story aloud .

     Teacher asks the students to watch videos and idioms from the Samagra and also to get more worksheet on                 idioms.

Conclusion

 

The teacher concludes the day’s lesson by giving a  gist of the lesson .’The Race’ is about a school boy named Tarun . He was a mediocre student. He  was always blamed by his parents for his low grades and tardy nature . He was called as a black sheep or a good for nothing fellow but he had an intense wish to be a fast runner .

As it was a virtual learning, it is difficult to rectify the possible mistakes of the learner.

With the  use of adequate online techniques, the   teacher maintained a good command over the class.

The PPT and the explanations put forward by the teacher were very helpful to retained interest of students.

Closure of the lesson

 

Teacher gave an extended activity to write the meaning of idioms and concluded the section.  

Teacher managed to cover up all the topics within the time span .
